TESTIMONY OF PATIENT`ON DIABETES MELLITUS

TESTIMONY OF PATIENT`ON DIABETES MELLITUS

My name is Simon Otieno, Kenyan aged 43 and early this year I was diagnosed with high blood sugars or Diabetes mellitus(DM).

On the 11th march 2019 I visited Ayurvedic services ltd clinic in Parkland area of Nairobi and was requested to provide tests on various items as was indicated by the doctor.
On the 21st march 2019, I provided the test result and it was notable that the fasting blood sugar at the time was 28 and I was suffering the following symptoms;
1. Frequent urination at night maybe about ten toilet visits between 10pm and 5 am
2. Thirst for water or dry mouth
3. Fatigue
4. Headaches
5. Numbness on tips of my fingers

The Doctor prescribed some medication for me and after using these to date my blood sugar has lowered to about 10 for fasting blood sugar. This was made possible by also eating low sugar foods and at the right times. Doctor advised me to take the specific foods and avoid that would aggravate the blood sugar. I was also advised on my life style modification to meet the requirements of my body type (Dosha). I was advised on doing physical exercise to encourage utilization of sugar.

Most of the above mentioned symptoms have drastically reduced. For instance, now night toilet visits are down to about 3, no thirst or dry mouth, I feel stronger and no more headaches. The finger tips now feel warm.
This is my testimony at the moment, 5 months after I started my journey with Ayurveda and the effectiveness of medication and advise provided by the Ayurvedic services Ltd.

Kidney or Renal Failure

Kidney or Renal Failure

Causes of Kidney Failure:

• Prolonged use of antibiotics and painkillers
• Prolonged use of medicines for controlling blood pressure and/ or Diabetes
• Liver malfunction
• Heart diseases
• Kidneys injured due to physical damage
• Blockage in urine drainage due to infection or stones

Symptoms of Kidney Failure:

• Change in taste and loss of appetite.
• Increased or decreased urination
• Foam, bubbles or blood in the urine
• Confusion and lack of concentration
• Shortness of breath
• Swelling on face, arms and legs
Dialysis is the common method used to eliminate waste from the Kidneys when they are not able to perform their natural functions.
Ayurveda however has the complete cure for dysfunctional Kidneys:
In Ayurveda, various renal diseases have been explained in detail. According to Ayurveda body constitutes of fourteen srotas i.e. systems. One of them is the mutravaha srotas (Urinary system) of which kidney is the main organ.

The Ayurvedic treatment of chronic renal failure is based on four principles:
1. First to check the progress of disease and prevent further damage to kidney
2. Treating the known cause / root cause
3. Treating the damaged kidneys and
4. Rejuvenation of kidney cells-This is very unique approach only Ayurveda can offer.
Treatment:
1. Basti (Medicated Enema) – Specific type of basti is used to expel out nitrogenous waste from the body, which has been accumulating as a result of renal failure.
Medicated enema not only reduces kidney load but also rejuvenates damaged kidney cells. Controls electrolytes and water re absorption at the level of intestine.
2. Purgation ( Nityavirechana)- Used in some specific condition for expulsion of nitrogenous waste.
3. Very effective oral natural medicines which act like diuretics, at the root cause of disease and rejuvenate kidney cells.
4. Special diet, easily digestible food which would mainly be vegetarian.
5. Fewer intakes of proteins and control of liquid intakes.
With the help of above treatment Ayurveda can deal with all the stages of kidney failure, even if the patient is on dialysis 3 times a week. Ayurvedic therapies gradually can reduce the need for dialysis up to twice a week, then up to once a week and ultimately to a health condition where no dialysis is required.

Fibromyalgia (FM)

Fibromyalgia (FM) Fibromyalgia is a chronic widespread pain disorder. Research studies( though not yet conclusive) state that FM patients may have lower levels of a brain neurotransmitter called serotonin, which leads to lowered pain thresholds and increased sensitivity to pain. The lowered pain thresholds in fibromyalgia patients may be caused also by the reduced effectiveness of the body’s natural endorphins and the increased levels of a neurotransmitter called substance P which amplifies pain signals as well.

Recent research suggests that the chronic widespread pain that is the hallmark symptom of FM is neurogenic in origin. Fibromyalgia is associated with a central amplification of pain perception characterized by allodynia (a heightened sensitivity to stimuli that are not normally painful) and hyperalgesia (an increased response to painful stimuli). Neuroimaging studies have also shown that FM is associated with abnormal processing of painful stimuli in the central nervous system and the elevated levels of nerve growth factor in the spinal fluid of fibromyalgia patients. The latter is a small protein important for the growth, maintenance, and survival of certain nerve cells.

Fibromyalgia is a persistent and potentially debilitating disorder that can have a devastating effect on quality of life, impairing the patient’s ability to work and participate in everyday activities, as well as affecting relationships with family, friends, and employers. It imposes heavy economic burdens on society as well as on the patient.

Ayurveda on Fibromyalgia
Fibromyalgia can be classified as mamsa dhatugat dushti (diseases affecting muscles and tendons) and mamsavrut Vāta (diseases of excess Vāta dosha in muscles and tendons).

Additionally, it involves dysfunction in vāta vaha srota, mamsa vaha srota and mamsa dhatvagni. It falls into a subtype of disease known in Ayurveda as vātavyādhi (diseases caused primarily by vitiated Vāta dosha), but always has Paitaja and Kaphaja involvement and variations.

Vātavyādhi is a disease of chronic and unpredictable (anavasthita) nature, involving primarily the musculoskeletal system and the nervous system, but in time affecting one or more additional tissues.

It is described in ancient texts as manifesting with a variety of possible and changing symptoms and signs including pain, stiffness, contracture, fatigue, gradual loss of movement, and mental disturbance. This description is remarkably similar to our modern description of fibromyalgia.

Other primary culprit are Ama and low agni. Ama is the result of defective digestive and metabolic mechanisms  initiated by the consumption of diets prepared with some ingredients of opposite qualities (viruddha ahara) consumed in the presence of mandagni (low agni).

Though, according to Ayurveda, ama and Vata dosha are the main pathogenic factors, Kapha and Pitta are also invariably involved in its pathogenesis.

Fibromyalgia is caused due to an initial aggravation of Vāta leading to neurological signs and symptoms. Kapha and Pitta are vitiated to varying extents in different individuals, and thus fibromyalgia is best understood as a tridoshic disease.

Fibromyalgia symptoms can wax and wane, varying in intensity from day to day and by physical location, all features which reflect its Vāta nature. Patients with FM frequently report impairment in multiple areas of function, especially physical function.

Treatment through Ayurveda:

Diet and Lifestyle modification: Nutritious Vata and Pitta pacifying vegetarian diet.

Plenty of rest (about 8 hours sleep at night); increased intake of warm water; milk with clove, cinnamon ,saffron, ginger(warming herbs) .

Avoid stress and worries.

Light exercise, Yoga, Pranayam ,Shavasana, meditation.

Panchkarma therapies:

Virechna ( An Ayurveda detox panchakarma therapy to remove ama , increase agni and to pacify Vata)

Abhyanga, Shirodhara and Basti subject to each individual’s requirement with specific oils and herbs to balance Tridosha.
